NEW DELHI: The National Database of Sexual Offenders (NDSO) has a record of 13 lakh offenders so far. With the help of NDSO, legal agencies can trace the accused/convicts of rape, molestation, stalking and crimes against children etc. The database contains the names, addresses, photographs and fingerprints of criminals which help in preventing such crime by identifying sexual offenders.

This was stated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah after a review meeting on cyber security infrastructure and functioning of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). He said that the Modi government has put in place a robust system to deal with cyber crimes where people can file complaints online based on which FIRs are registered and prompt action taken. He informed that 99.9% of police stations (16,597) are registering 100% FIRs directly on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).

He added that so far more than 20 lakh cyber crime complaints have been registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, based on which 40,000 FIRs have been registered.

Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making comprehensive, integrated and all-out efforts to create awareness among the public about various aspects of cyber security and cyber crime. He informed that due to increased vigilance, about 500 mobile applications have been identified and banned by the law enforcement agencies.

Shah said that in view of the increasing cases of cyber financial frauds, the helpline number ‘1930’ has been started and more than 250 banks and financial institutions have been involved in this platform and an amount of Rs 235 crore defrauded by cyber criminals from 1.33 lakh people has been recovered.
