THE United Arab Emirates (UAE) showed remarkable commitment to India’s G20 presidency, as evidenced by the participation of a large number of key officials in the G20 Summit last month.
The delegation was headed by the President of UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed; Adviser Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Court, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad; Secretary General of the Supreme Council for National Security, Ali Al Shamsi; Minister of State for International Co-operation, Reem Al Hashimy and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr Sultan Al Jaber.
Role in green alliance
UAE played a significant role in the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance, a collaborative initiative that brought together 19 countries and 12 international organisations.
The country took the lead on several fronts, including the ambitious aim of tripling global renewable energy capacities by 2030; the pressing need to reduce coal dependency, and an unwavering commitment to a comprehensive transition towards green energy in the imminent years.
Lauding UAE’s efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt appreciation, on X, “It was indeed an enriching meeting with His Highness Sheikh @MohamedBinZayed in Delhi. India deeply treasures his profound insights and unyielding dedication to the advancement of global well-being.”
New supply chain
Also, in a significant announcement, the IndiaMiddle East-Europe Corridor was unveiled. The project will establish a transcontinental corridor that would seamlessly connect India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and the United States through a network encompassing both shipping and rail transportation.
UAE was instrumental in getting all partners on board for this alternative supply chain project, which would usher in comprehensive development across a multitude of nations.
After the summit, Sheikh Mohamed took to social media and shared a video summarising his visit to India for the G20 leader’s summit. The video reiterated the commitment of UAE to global cooperation in addressing new and emerging challenges.
