NEW DELHI: India and China are holding Major General-level talks at Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) and Chushul to resolve the ongoing stand-off between the two countries in eastern Ladakh since 2020. It took place ahead of the recent BRICS leaders’ meeting in South Africa. The Chinese leader is also expected to attend G20 meeting in India.
The talks are being held to resolve the issues at the Depsang Plains andDemchok as well as buffer zones. Major General PK Mishra and Major General Hariharan represented the Indian side at the two locations.
The two sides discussed a whole host of confidence-building measures to reduce the trust deficit and ease tensions between the two armies, according to sources. The CBMs range from not increasing troop levels along the LAC, avoiding any airspace violations by drones and defining the limits of patrolling and exchanging prior information about each other’s patrols, strictly adhering to border protocols and maintain sanctity of buffer zones, the sources said. Prior to 2020, both sides used to conduct patrolling in the disputed areas.
Earlier, the talks were held at the level of corps commander-level on August 13-14.
