I NDIA has been re-elected to the Part II of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) with a stronger mandate. Part II includes countries that make significant contributions to international air navigation. India received more votes than in 2022 in the election that took place on September 27 during the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session held in Montreal, reflecting growing confidence among member countries in its leadership and contribution to the global aviation sector.
“Supporting this effort, the Ministry of External Affairs, through continuous engagement with other member states, reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to the objectives of ICAO,” the Civil Aviation Ministry said in a statement. Earlier, on September 2, the ministry hosted a reception for Ambassadors and High Commissioners in New Delhi ahead of the 42nd ICAO assembly session. On this occasion, Minister for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu had sought the support of Member States for India’s candidature for re-election for the 2025-2028 term.
India’s representative at ICAO Headquarters also actively engaged in mobilising support. During the election campaign, Naidu visited Montreal and held bilateral meetings with various member countries.
