INS Malvan is the seventh warship to be commissioned this year

NEW DELHI: Strengthening its coastal defence capabilities, the Indian Navy on July 22 commissioned the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC) Malvan at Karwar.

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh was the chief guest at the ceremony. Speaking on this occasion, Air Chief Marshal Singh appreciated the Navy for its efforts towards atmanirbharata and said that INS Malvan will play a crucial role in the maritime security of the country’s coastal region.

Malvan is the first Indian warship to be commissioned at Karwar, and the seventh one to be commissioned this year. Named after the historic coastal town in Maharashtra, Malvan is the second of eight Mahe-class ASWSWCs being built by Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Western Fleet. The warship built by Cochin Shipyard under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, uses more than 80 per cent indigenous equipment and technology.

Malvan is equipped with advanced anti-submarine weapons, including a forward-mounted RBU-6000 rocket launcher, triple 324 mm lightweight torpedo tubes on both port and starboard sides armed with Advanced Light-Weight Torpedoes, and anti-submarine mine-laying rails.S trengthening its coastal defence capabilities, the Indian Navy on July 22 commissioned the anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW-SWC) Malvan at Karwar.
