NEW DELHI: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri held talks with OPEC secretarygeneral Haitham al-Ghais, and Schlumberger CEO Olivier Le Peuch in Abu Dhabi on Monday, on the sidelines of ADIPEC 2023 on energy prices, cooperation and opportunities for stronger partnerships with the growing energy sector in India.
Puri’s meeting with al-Ghais focused on India’s perspective and priorities on energy security, and explored ways for mutual cooperation between the OPEC and India. India is a major importer of oil from OPEC countries, and Puri has previously called for OPEC to increase production to help stabilise global energy markets.
In his meeting with Le Peuch, the minister discussed ways for Schlumberger to collaborate with Indian exploration and production companies in areas such as analysis and marketing of geological data, as well as more intensive participation in the oilfield services business.
Puri also met with Vicki Hollub, President and CEO of Occidental Petroleum, to discuss opportunities to utilise Occidental’s competencies for stronger partnership with the growing energy sector in India. These meetings are significant because they demonstrate India’s commitment to maintaining dialogue and cooperation on energy issues with both OPEC and the global oil and gas industry.
ADIPEC 2023 is held under the theme of “Decarbonising. Faster. Together.” and brings together the global energy industry to advance decarbonising today’s energy system and collaborate on tomorrow’s energy system.
