VARANASI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that a list of temples in the country should be prepared so as to empower them and create a network. This list should include even the smallest of shrines, he added.
Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony of the threeday-long International Temples Convention and Expo (ITCX) 2023 in Varanasi, he said he was delighted to see representatives of over 700 temples of the Sanatana tradition from India as well as abroad.
During the event, he also read a letter by PM Narendra Modi in which he praised the ITCX. In the letter, PM Modi encouraged the participants to make optimum use of this platform and work towards realising the vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi”.
Bhagwat said temples play a crucial role in society and to carry them out smoothly, the managements of these places of worship should have adequate resources.
“Hindu temples play an important role in awakening and nurturing faith and devotion. We must empower even the smallest temples in Bharat. Many temples are under the government’s control, and we should think about how to integrate them, ” Bhagwat said.
He said that the role of a temple is to reach out to people during difficult times and each temple according to its capacity should extend its aid to people in distress in the region.
“We need to teach our younger generations about the importance of service and the temple ecosystem,” the RSS chief added.
