NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his commitment to take India among the third largest economies in the world in his third term.

During the inauguration ceremony of the Surat Diamond Bourse, he said that his Government had devised a plan for the next 25 years in view of the development of India’s economy.

“Whether it is the aim for a 5-trillion-dollar economy or 10-trilliondollar economy, the Government has fixed the target for the next 25 years and we are working on it”, he said and added that his government is also working towards pushing the country’s export industry to a record high.

PM Modi called Surat Diamond Bourse a result of “Modi’s guarantee”. “If Surat moves forward, Gujarat will move forward. If Gujarat will move forward then the country will move forward,” he said.

The newly built Diamond Bourse will be the World’s largest and most modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the New Integrated Terminal Building of Surat Airport.

The new terminal building is equipped to handle 1,200 domestic passengers and 600 international passengers during peak hours with annual handling capacity increasing to 55 lakh passengers.

The upgraded terminal building aims to enrich the passenger experience with the rich and traditional woodwork of the old houses of the ‘Rander’ region of Surat City.

Apart from diamonds, every sector here including textile industry, tourism industry, education and skills industry will benefit from this, he said. PM Modi said that the flight from Surat to Dubai is starting from today (December 17), and very soon the flight to Hong Kong will also start.

And because the airport of Surat has been built, there are now three international airports in Gujarat.

“Surat has taught me a lot. And Surat has taught us that when everyone makes efforts, we can face even the greatest challenges. There is something about the soil of Surat itself, which makes it different from everything else. And the capability of the people of Surat is simply unparalleled, “he added.
