NEW DELHI: US-based aircraft maker Boeing is planning to assemble jets in India, holding promise for the growth of a new industry with significant prospects for job creation in the country.
It is worth mentioning here that Tata Group-owned Air India had ordered 210 jets from Boeing as part of a multi-aircraft order to meet its expansion goals.
Boeing is also eyeing a $1 billion ramp-up in sourcing of equipment from India. The jet maker is the largest importer of original equipment from India.
The company is exploring the viability of having a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in India, Boeing sources said.
The first step in this process is to step up sourcing of equipment from India, he said. These include components as well as higher-value systems for jets. This is a key value addition to the supply chain that leads to manufacturing an aircraft, added the source.
