MUMBAI: Nearly 2,500 legislators from across the country are here to attend the maiden National Legislators’ Conferenceorganised by MIT School of Governance.
The primary objective of the conference is cross-learning and enhancement of legislative effectiveness. The participants will have experiential learning and thematic discussions through a mix of sessions and a showcase of state and UT pavilions.
On day one of the conference, Speakers and Deputy Speakers of state Assemblies and Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons of Legislative Councils held a close-door interaction in the presence of NLC patrons and Governing Council members. They made a strong pitch for a separate forum for legislators to interact specificities of issues, including EGS, mid-day meal scheme and tribals.
On June 16, the legislators will take part in five thematic parallel sessions on stress management in public life; sustainable development, welfare schemes; technology for economic welfare and legislative practices. Further, roundtable discussions will be held on Bharat@2047 comprising leaders of all political parties.
In the evening, the legislators will participate in a programme, titled ‘Ramp of Democracy’ in which they will appear in their respective traditional attire. The organisersclarified that it would not be a fashion show, but an event aimed at celebrating diversity. The show will be anchored by noted singer UshaUthup.
On the concluding day, a roundtable discussion of international delegates will be organised. It will be followed by a plenary session on ‘Tale of the Tall:Leadership Mantras’. Eminent leaders, including Venkaiah Naidu, SharadPawar, Digvijay Singh and GhulamNabi Azad are expected to take part in the session.
Alongside the conference, an exhibition on best legislative practices, performance of legislators, and innovation has also been organised. DrMilindPande, Pro Vice- Chancellor of MITWorld Peace University, said 20 startups involved in low cost health technology and 75 best startups from water, environment, agriculture, education and healthcare will display their work in the exhibition.
