NEW DELHI: As the Ayurveda market booms, the Government is also establishing a legal framework to ensure that the products are safe for consumers.
Ayurvedic medicines are strictly regulated under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Drugs Rules, 1945. Under these legal frameworks, manufacturers must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), prove drug safety and efficacy, and meet pharmacopoeia standards.

Government drug inspectors conduct routine sampling and testing to maintain quality control, supported by a specialised Ayush vertical established within the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
To streamline compliance, the Government launched the e-Aushadhi portal for paperless processing and real-time tracking of drug manufacturing license applications.
