THE age of artificial intelligence (AI) is here and India is set to emerge as a global leader in the field, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to unveil the country’s vision at the first-ever AI Action Summit in Paris on February 10-11.
“France is hosting the summit to foster dialogue on AI’s impact on society, addressing themes like public interest, innovation, and global governance and India will play a vital role in it,” French President Emmanuel Macron announced.
Driven by its ‘Make AI in India’ and ‘Make AI Work for India’ vision, India has already established a solid foundation to emerge as a global leader in the field. Initiatives like Aadhaar and India Stack provide robust digital infrastructure, fostering innovation in fintech, healthcare, and governance. India’s digital and innovation economy is growing thrice as fast as the rest of the economy, with the aim of reaching a size of $1 trillion soon; the Government having invested in both semiconductors and AI.
The AI Action Summit 2025 in Paris is a call for transformative AI innovations. Spearheaded by the French Ministry of AI and the French Ministry of Economy, it will spotlight transformative power of the artificial intelligence in enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and innovation across sectors. With the world’s largest STEM talent pool and thriving AI hubs in cities like Bengaluru, India leverages geospatial openness and fintech data for solutions in agriculture, logistics, and finance.
Policy initiatives
An agile Government, proactive policies, and a focus on ethical AI ensure inclusivity and impact. India is well poised to lead the global AI revolution, addressing real-world challenges effectively.
What truly differentiates India is its agile government. Initiatives like Digital India and Startup India provide an enabling environment for public-private partnerships to thrive. Recent policy moves, such as liberalising geospatial data and fostering AI research, reflect a proactive approach to harnessing technology for inclusive growth.
India’s leadership in setting ethical standards for AI development – focused on fairness, transparency, and inclusivity – has also positioned the country as a thought leader on the global stage.
India’s focus is on catalyzing AI innovation through strategic partnerships across public and private sectors, emphasising both ‘Making AI in India’ and ‘Making AI Work for India’. Whether through deploying AI for financial inclusion, optimising agriculture with geospatial intelligence, or improving healthcare access with AI-driven diagnostics, India is ensuring that technology benefits all sections of society.
With its unique blend of innovation, inclusivity, and impact, the country is poised to lead the global AI revolution, not just in creating cutting-edge solutions but in demonstrating how AI can be a force for good in addressing humanity’s greatest challenges
