INDIAN ELECTION GETS MODI MAKEOVER

ak sharmaEVER since the first Lok Sabha election in 1952, voters in India have elected governments on issues dividing them on the basis of party affiliations, caste, creed and place of birth. This time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a makeover to the meaning of elections in the country.

Kickstarting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for General Elections 2024, from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the importance of the upcoming election in the Government’s push towards creating a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He said the current election is not just for forming a government, but to make a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India) by 2047. The PM’s stance has rattled the Opposition, which has been in utter disarray without a convincing issue.

Govt’s commitment: For the Modi Government, it is not merely an electoral promise but a commitment. In an unusual gesture, PM Modi had a 12-hour-long meeting of his Council of Ministers in early March in which a vision document for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ was conceptualised.

A detailed action plan for the next five years was also discussed at the meeting, which pondered over a 100-day plan for immediate steps to be taken after the new government is formed in May. The roadmap for ‘Viksit Bharat’ agenda was also at the centrestage of the BJP’s election manifesto committee meeting.

Ever since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi’s vision has extended far beyond the ordinary realms of governance to an ambitious and grand vision to create a new and developed India. Central to this is the concept of ‘Viksit Bharat’, a transformative vision aimed at catapulting India into the league of developed nations by 2047, the 100th anniversary of its independence.

Holistic growth: Viksit Bharat encapsulates PM Modi’s vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and technologically advanced India. It goes beyond economic development to encompass holistic growth across various sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and industry.

It seeks to unleash the latent potential of India’s billion-plus population, harnessing their creativity, enterprise, and innovation to drive sustainable and equitable development. Viksit Bharat holds profound significance for India’s socio-economic trajectory, offering a roadmap for realising its aspirations of becoming a global powerhouse.

At the heart of Viksit Bharat is the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas emphasising the importance of inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
