NEW DELHI: The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General of India for a further period of three years.
The Solicitor General is the second most senior law officer after the Attorney General. Mehta was appointed SGI for the first time in October 2018 and his tenure has been extended from time to time.
A legal luminary par excellence, Mehta has over three and a half decades of rich and diverse experience – in his home state of Gujarat and Delhi. He holds a steadfast commitment to the rule of law and to the legal fraternity which protects and preserves it each day.
Mehta is one of the country’s most successful legal officers, and in his current office, has provided decisive leadership during some of the most difficult events in recent history. Among these are Covid lockdown, the Ram Temple issue, the Centre-State relation and key taxation issues where he has argued the Government’s perspective with great finesse and clarity.
