LONDON: The United Kingdom is about to implement major changes to its visa regulations starting January 31, leading to new possibilities for individuals with visitor visas.

After the change, tourist visa holders will be allowed to engage in work-related activities with clients and undertake remote work while visiting the UK. It marks a notable shift in policy that is expected to invigorate both business and tourism.

The UK Government has released updates to its immigration rules, expanding activities on visitor visas, with the changes slated to take effect from January 31.

The key points of the revised rules include provisions for employees of companies with branches in both the UK and internationally to engage in client work abroad, provided it constitutes a small portion of their overseas responsibilities and is crucial for a project or service by their UK branch.

Visitors can also work remotely from the UK, with the condition that the primary purpose of their stay should not be remote work. Scientists, researchers, academics, and lawyers will also benefit from these changes, with allowances for conducting research, seeking permission extensions, and engaging in additional legal activities such as providing advice, acting as an expert witness, participating in legal proceedings, and teaching.

The integration of the Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visitor route into the Standard Visitor route is another notable change, streamlining the process for those involved in paid engagements.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt had previously pledged to expand business visitor rules, facilitating a broader range of permitted activities and paid engagements, with the changes set to be effective from January 2024. These modifications represent a progressive step towards fostering a more dynamic and inclusive environment for individuals visiting the UK for business purposes.
