LUCKNOW: The Rashtravadi Muslim Pasmanda Mahaz, a Pasmanda(backward) Muslim organisation which is associated with the BJP, organised a convention in Lucknow to dispel the misconceptions about the Uniform Civil Code that were being spread by certain Muslim clerics, leaders, and opposition parties. The theme of the convention was “Uniform Civil Code aur Pasmanda Muslims — brantiyon aur afwahon ko dur karne ke liye samwad” (UCC and Pasmanda Muslims — dialogue to remove misconceptions and rumours).
The meeting was attended by several senior BJP leaders and UP Ministers. National Commission for Minorities chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura, who is a member of the BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board, was the chief guest. Lalpura said that the Muslim community does not need to fear the UCC and that “PM Modi takes care of everyone”.
In his speech, Mahaz president Atif Rashid dared “Ashraf” (upper caste) members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) for a debate on the UCC. He said the Mahaz would meet the AIMPLB members and appeal to them that they should not “mislead” Pasmanda Muslims over the UCC. He said the objective of the UCC proposal is to give equal rights to every woman and that it would not change the ways of prayers, culture or lifestyle of people.
