'Manipur will see peace and development again'

NEW DELHI: In a contest that was more about optics than numbers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned the tables on the Opposition during his reply to the debate on its no confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.

“India stands with Manipur. It will see peace and development again” PM Modi said, accusing the members of the Congress-led Opposition of “betraying the people” by not allowing Parliament to function.

“They ran away from the House,” the PM Modi said as the members of I.N.D.I.A bloc staged a walkout even before he could conclude.

“Now the Opposition has ensured our third term with a still bigger win and we will make India the world’s third largest economy”

Throughout the Monsoon Session, both the Houses of Parliament had been marked by rowdy disruptions and logjams, despite heavy legislative agenda on crucial national issues.

Important institution

“Parliament is not the platform of politics, it’s an important institution. It’s run on taxpayers’ money but the Opposition does not care about these things. Politics won’t help to run the country and they have broken the trust of the people,” the Prime Minister said.

In a clear pitch for 2024 General Election, PM Modi pointed out that a non-confidence motion against his government in 2018 had resulted in a resounding victory in the 2019 elections.

“During our second term, we made India the fifth largest economy in the world. Now the Opposition has ensured our third term with a still bigger win and we will make India the world’s third largest economy,” he said.

“As the Leader of the House, I gave them a task in 2018 to bring a noconfidence motion in 2023. There was no creativity and couldn’t find issues to talk about. No worries, in 2028 please come prepared when you bring a noconfidence motion,” the PM said.

Historical wrongs

PM Modi used the platform to intensify his attacks on Opposition parties, praise his government for the work done in the last nine years, and applaud the transformation of the economy and correction of historical wrongs. He was aghast at description of developments in the Northeast and other parts of India by Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs as ‘murder of Bharat Mata’.

“I’m surprised to see the kind of language used against Bharat Mata. They talk about the death of democracy and institutions. They broke India into three parts in 1947. Their politics of appeasement partitioned India and broke Vande Mataram as well. They support the tukde tukde gang,” PM Modi said.

He called newly formed Opposition alliance I.N.D.I.A a ‘ghamandia’ alliance and predicted that it’s no- trust vote against the government would only amplify the people’s trust in it. “The Opposition has ensured that NDA and BJP will come back with a grand victory, breaking all previous records,” he said.

In his address, the PM also underlined the importance of the ongoing time period as a pivotal point that holds immense potential to fulfil India’s goals and aspirations.

“Our focus should be on the development of the country. It is the need of the hour. Our youth have the power to make dreams come true. We’ve given corruption-free govt, aspirations and opportunities to the youth of the country,” he said.
