CONTINUING a tradition of celebrating the festival of lights with the country’s armed forces, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated this year’s Diwali on October 31 with soldiers near the Indo-Pak border in Kutch district of Gujarat.
Wearing a BSF uniform, the PM reached Lakki Nala in Sir Creek area after landing in Kutch. He celebrated the festival by offering sweets to personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), Army, Navy and Air Force.
Addressing the jawans, PM Modi said his Government’s policies are aligned with the resolve of the armed forces and they won’t compromise on even an inch of India’s borders. “There is such a government in this country which would not compromise on even an inch of the country’s land,” he said. “Keeping in mind the needs of the 21st century, today we are equipping our armies, our security forces, with modern resources. We are putting our Army in the league of the world’s most modern military forces. The basis of these efforts of ours is self-reliance in the defence sector,” he added.
PM Modi said his Government’s top priority was to develop infrastructure in border areas. He also stressed the need for an Integrated Theatre Command mechanism and said that India is fast heading towards achieving this target.
