THE 38th edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela concluded at Faridabad in Haryana on February 23, with a spectacular closing ceremony, presided over by Union Minister of Energy, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal. Awards were presented to outstanding artisans across multiple categories, as part of the ceremony. This year’s edition of the Mela witnessed the participation of over 1,600 artisans from India and abroad, drawing an impressive footfall of approximately 15 lakh visitors.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the minister highlighted the Mela’s global impact, stating, “This event has not only given a new identity to Haryana and India on the world map but has also marked a new milestone in the field of cultural tourism.” Describing it as the “MahaKumbh of art and craft,” he emphasised its significance as a unique platform fostering direct interaction between artisans and visitors while promoting India’s rich heritage and cultural diversity. Manohar Lal praised the Mela’s role in strengthening national unity and cultural integrity. “Surajkund has become the world’s largest cultural confluence, reflecting the increasing love and respect for art and craft,” he said.
